Coach vs Teacher. Maybe both?

On this Corona wave of almost everyone making their own little training videos, online yoga classes, and self-marketing, plus more, I have been forced to stop and think what’s my role as a Teacher in all of this. What’s my niche? Do I even have one?

Never before was I put in a position where I had to think what my particular potential group of people were to whom I can deliver my heart message, nor did I have to think what my personal/professional message might actually be. What is my message, exactly? I always thought that whomever resonated with what I had to offer would find me. From a basic point of view, it has all been about inspiring and sharing all I find inspiring and shareable. Yes, that happens to be lots of yoga, though theres also so much more than that. Who are my people? Maybe those who are in the trenches fighting to live a life that’s worth living, despite the stressors of life.

But when I think a little deeper, I am taken back to the various times in which students, mostly male students, have called me “Coach”.

Being initially referred to as Coach was a little intriguing and even endearing. Yet, I never actually stopped to question it, until it started more frequently. At first, I attributed to the idea that maybe these men felt more empowered calling me Coach, as opposed to Teacher, or Yoga Teacher. Then, a few other female students mentioned they liked coming to my class because I was like a coach.

I asked some students why they called me; “Coach”, and their vague response was because I “coach them, and I held them accountable”.

A further light internet research did not lead to any further clarification other than a Teacher focuses on learning, and the ownership of creating a change in the student relies on the Teacher. A Coach, basically, helps people to help themselves. The line is blurry, and I seem to find myself right on that blurry line!

What am I?

I am a multi passionate individual, who uses all various interests and tools, methods and practices, to help myself be and feel inspired, and if that works for me, then I will share them and teach them to serve, inspire, and empowers others. If I have found something that works, then I must share the magic with others. I must teach it after I have put it to practice and test drive it.

I write, I read, I practice, I teach...

As American Poet, Dr. Maya Angelou once said; “I’m not a writer who teaches. I’m a teacher who writes”

I am a teacher…
